"The band who saved American music" - das Statement des Uncut Magazine bringt auf den Punkt, was Fans und Kritiker R.E.M. bis heute hoch anrechnen. Vor 31 Jahren betrat die Band aus Athens, Georgia die weltweite Musikbühne. Sie schenkte der Welt 15 Alben. Und sie beschloss, um mal das bekannte Sprichwort zu bemühen, sich aufzulösen, solange es noch so richtig schön ist.
Vor gut einem Monat gaben Frontmann Michael Stipe, Gitarrist Peter Buck, Bassist Mike Mills und Drummer Bill Berry ihre Auflösung bekannt. Ihr Vermächtnis ist die Best-Of-Sammlung "Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage: 1982-2011", die am 11.11. bei uns erscheint.
