Die Nominierungen für die MTV VMA werden jedes Jahr mit Spannung erwartet – und dieses Jahr ganz besonders. Denn erstmals werden die Kategorien nicht mehr nach Geschlechtern geteilt, sondern es gibt beispielsweise nur noch eine "Artist of the Year"-Kategorie. Gute Aktion, MTV! Neu dabei ist außerdem ein Award für "Best Fight The System", der Videos würdigt, die soziale Ungerechtigkeiten thematisieren – nominiert ist hier beispielsweise (und völlig zurecht) The Hamilton Mixtape mit dem jüngst veröffentlichten Video zu "Immigrants (We Get The Job Done).

Und dann sind noch eine ganze Reihe weiterer Artists von Warner Music für die begehrten Moonman-Trophäen im Rennen: Bruno Mars ist gleich viermal nominiert, als "Artist of the Year" sowie "Video of the Year", "Best Direction" und "Best Art Direction" mit "24K Magic"Ed Sheeran als "Best Pop" für seinen Song "Shape of You" und "Best Cinematography" für "Castle On The Hill",  Major Lazer als "Best Dance" für "Cold Water" ft. Justin Bieber and MØ, Coldplay ("A Head Full of Dreams"), Twenty One Pilots ("Heavydirtysoul") und Green Day ("Bang Bang") als "Best Rock", Charlie Puth für "Best Collaboration" ("We Don't Talk Anymore" mit Selena Gomez), ebenso wie D.R.A.M. ("Broccoli" mit Lil Yachty), der mit dem Song außerdem als "Best Hip Hop" nominiert ist, Young Thug als "Best Editing" für "Wyclef Jean" sowie KYLE, der für "iSpy ft. Lil Yachty" in der Kategorie "Best Visual Effects" ins Rennen geht.  

Die MTV VMA 2017 werden am 27. August im Forum in Inglewood, Kalifornien vergeben. Hier sind alle Nominierten in der Übersicht:
