Gestern Abend wurden in Kalifornien zum 34. Mal die MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) vergeben – wie jedes Jahr ein beeindruckender Starauflauf, moderiert von Katy Perry.

Erstmals waren bei den MTV VMA in diesem Jahr die Kategorien nicht mehr nach Geschlechtern geteilt – eine kleine Revolution. Zu vergeben gab es natürlich auch so reichlich Awards – und Ed Sheeran schnappte sich einen der Hauptpreise: Der Brite wurde zum "Artist of the Year" gekrönt und verwies damit Kendrick Lamar, Bruno Mars, the Weeknd, Lorde und Ariana Grande auf die Plätze. Der 26-Jährige trat außerdem mit seinem Song "Shape Of You" live auf und erhielt dabei Besuch von US-Labelkollegen Lil Uzi Vert, der seinerseits seinen Track "XO Tour Llif3" präsentierte, der an dem Abend auch als "Song of the Summer" ausgezeichnet wurde.

Weiterhin freuen konnten sich twenty one pilots ("Best Rock" für "Heavydirtysoul"), die Macher vom The Hamilton Mixtape ("Best Fight Against the System"), Gucci Mane ("Best Pop" für sein Feature auf "Down" von Fifth Harmony, das gestern ebenfalls live performt wurde, s.u.) sowie Young Thug, der seinen ersten VMA gewann, in der Kategorie "Best Editing" für sein großartig absurdes Video zu "Wyclef Jean"). Ein bewegender Moment des Abends war zudem Jared Letos Tribut an den jüngst aus dem Leben geschiedenen Chester Bennington von Linkin Park, den ihr ebenfalls unten ansehen könnt.
