"We let a racist orange man be the president": In seinem neuen Song "Caught In The Fire" findet Bazzi deutliche Worte
"I definitely I felt the responsibility as an artist" – so fasst Bazzi im Interview mit Zane Lowe unten zusammen, was für ihn persönlich ein Lerneffekt der zurückliegenden, enorm erfolgreichen Monate war (man denke nur an seinen Durchbruch-Hit "Mine", seine Support-Tour für Justin Timberlake und seine Kollaboration für "Beautiful" mit Camila Cabello). Nimmt man dazu ein großes Gefühl von Frustration, das der 21-Jährige angesichts der zunehmend zugespitzten Weltlage verspürt, kann daraus starke Kunst entstehen.
"Caught In The Fire" nennt sich Bazzis neuer Track, den er als Ventil nutzt, um einigen seiner Gefühle und Sorgen freien Lauf zu lassen: "Ah, the world on fire / Let's celebrate, let's have a toast while we sit and we watch / The whole world go up in flames (Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha) / We lost our minds (Lost it) / We goin' cray (Cray) / We let a racist orange man be the president / Ain't that just fuckin' great? (The fuck, man)", singt er über einen basslastigen, bouncenden Beat. Gegen das Gefühl von Leere hilft auch Konsum nichts: "I bought a Bentley, still feel pathetic / Ice on my wrist, still feel depression". Doch Bazzi hat die Hoffnung nicht aufgegeben, dass seine Generation den Unterschied machen kann: "My generation is the truth / I believe in me and you / Bitch, the future is the youth / Let me show you what we do".
"I like to look at it like that over the last year of everything that’s been going on. The song kind of shows two sides of me as an artist and also as a human and a person", sagt Bazzi im Interview mit Zane Lowe weiter. "The verses have this almost anger, this frustration, and then that hook comes in and it’s the vulnerable side of me that’s purely hurting. I think I’m just exercising myself, man, learning new things about myself, learning new things that I can do and new things that I enjoy hearing."
