Video zu "Open (Passionate)" und Interview zum neuen Album "It Was Good Until It Wasn’t"

Am Freitag veröffentlichte Kehlani ihr neues Album "It Was Good Until It Wasn’t", das bereits beste Kritiken erhält. Begleitet wird die Veröffentlichung von einem Musikvideo zum Song "Open (Passionate)". Gedreht einmal mehr im "Quarantine Style" von Hyphy Williams alias Kehlani, zeigt das zweiteilige Video die Sängerin an zwei unterschiedlichen Orten: zunächst in ihrem heimischen Jacuzzi mit imposantem Bergpanorama im Hintergrund, dann auf einer nächtlichen Autofahrt mit einem männlichen Begleiter auf dem Beifahrersitz. 

Um einen Begleiter dreht sich auch der Song selbst – ein Beziehungspartner nämlich, von dem Kehlani zu wissen begehrt: "Do I got you way too open to be open? / Is the lens you see me through just way too focused?" Denn sie braucht jemanden an ihrer Seite, auf den sie sich auch dann verlassen kann, wenn sie räumlich von ihm getrennt ist:  "What if you’re curious and caught up in the moment? / Can you hold me down when I’m across the ocean?". Produziert wurde der Track u.a. von The Futuristiks, Roget und Los Hendrix.

Kehlani beschreibt "It Was Good Until It Wasn’t" als “my most mature body of work. It’s super honest. It’s darker. Whereas a lot of my earlier projects were very bright, 'It Was Good Until It Wasn’t' is sexier." Als Gäste wirken James Blake, Tory Lanez, Jhené Aiko, Masego, Lucky Dane sowie in einem Skit Meghan Thee Stallion mit. Unten spricht Kehlani mit Nadeska von Beats 1 über ihr Album, die beteiligten Gäste und ihre jüngsten Quarantäne-Musikvideos.

it’s been a long road. an uphill battle. feeling like i was only seen and not heard, and even when seen.. was i felt? i spent nights questioning if my art still meant as much to my fans as it did to me. i pushed thru this album. thru new motherhood, postpartum issues, heartbreak, loss, grief. i lost 2 people i called sister. i lost love i considered unbreakable. i cried. i wiped the tears. everyday there was effort to heal. i’m still trying. this album, making it with my friends, being supported by an incredible team i consider family, felt personal. it felt like a win for all of us. it felt like a lot like You Should Be Here. i remember being barely 20 and wide eyed, hungry and hopeful, grateful as ever. today i dapped 20 year old me up and said she’d be super proud she got her groove back. proud she ain’t gave up. proud she made something the world feels. from me, my family, and everyone who participated in making this the biggest most beautiful moment of my entire career so far... thank you. #ItWasGoodUntilItWasnt
