Der Titel "I Don't Think I'm Okay" deutet es schon an: Bazzi spricht in seinem neuen Song offen über seine Gefühle. Und ermutigt uns, dies ebenfalls zu tun. Darüber reden tut gut! "It feels so good to say / I, I don't think I'm okay / And that's okay", singt der 22-Jährige, der damit hadert, dass deine Freunde und seine Mutter viel zu wenig Aufmerksamkeit von ihm bekommen, weil er "always in the clouds" ist. Ist er noch der Bazzi, der er früher einmal war? – "my friends just looking for a call, they want to say hi / They wonder if the person they knew's still inside", stellt Bazzi selbstkritisch fest. Über Twitter teilte der Musiker eine ausführliche Erklärung zur Inspiration zu dem Song: "i made this song 8 months ago in a cabin in big bear, california. at that time, i was going through the lowest yet most introspective time of my life. to be honest, im still feeling all the pain I felt back then. im still trying to defeat the same addictions & still battling the same demons… i’m now just trying to learn to direct that energy to different places, instead of allowing it to paralyze me emotionally. doesn’t it get so exhausting keeping a barrier in front of your true feelings?", so Bazzi, der dann den Bogen zum generellen Zustand der Welt schlägt: "i share all this now as i see a world that is in pain. i see a world that is changing seasons. i see a young generation 100x more socially and self aware than any generation before us. i see us coming together against injustice & making a conscious effort to be better and to do better. although we’re so connected, i also feel disconnectivity among us. in a time where we have more information about each other than ever – somewhere in all of the data and analytics, i think we forget that being a human is about feeling. i made this song to identify a pain i think exists in a lot of us & i hope when you listen to it, it gives you a place for your feelings to live."

Nachdem Bazzi sich zuletzt in seinen Tracks "I Got You" und "Renee’s Song" von seiner unbeschwerten, verliebten Seite präsentiert hatte, zeigt er mit "I Don't Think I'm Okay" die andere, melancholische und nachdenkliche Seite seiner Persönlichkeit.
