Mit "Imagine" dankt Ben Platt einer Person, die seinen Alltag ein bisschen magischer macht
Sein neuer Song "Imagine" sei "for the person in your life that makes the ordinary a lil bit magical" – so sagt Ben Platt. Seine erste neue Musik seit “So Will I” im letzten Jahr (ein Zuschlag zur Deluxe Edition seines Debütalbums "Sing to Me Instead") ist so, wie man den Schauspieler, Songwriter und Sänger kennt und liebt: inspirierend, warmherzig, dankbar für das Leben: "You say I'm your hero / But you are the one that saved me / If I ever lost you / I'd fall to my knees", singt er an die Adresse eines Menschen, der ihm besonders viel bedeutet – sein Partner Noah. Im Musikvideo werden die erhebenden Zeilen des Songs Realität.
Ben Platt schrieb den Song zusammen mit Jon Bellion, Michael Pollack, Alexander Izquierdo, Jordan K. Johnson und Stefan Johnson. Produziert wurde "Imagine" von Bellion and the Monsters and Strangerz, die bereits an Hits wie "Memories" von Maroon 5, "Holy" von Justin Bieber und "Pride" von Miley Cyrus feat. Dua Lipa's "Prisoner" arbeiteten. Das Video wurde unter der Regie von Matty Peacock (Billie Eilish, Shawn Mendes, Selena Gomez) gdreht.
"We’ve all spent this past year and change holed up in our homes, having to create fantasies for ourselves" kommentiert Platt gegenüber dem Rolling Stone. "For ‘Imagine’, both the song and video, I was very inspired by the way that our loved ones, the people that make life worth living, can turn the mundanity of suburbia into something magical and fantastical. Everyone has that person or people that make their world technicolor, fueling us with a love that can feel supernatural. The video is that feeling of cloud nine. For me, when I sing the song, it’s for my boyfriend Noah.”
