Death Cab for Cutie kündigen "Asphalt Meadows (Acoustic)" an
Das Album ist ab dem 10. März erhältlich und wird neue, klanglich reduziertere Versionen der elf Albumtracks enthalten, außerdem wird das Tracklisting um eine Coverversion von "The Plan" erweitert.
Im September letzten Jahres veröffentlichten Death Cab for Cutie ihr Album "Asphalt Meadows", nun hat die Indie-Rockband aus Washington eine Akustikversion des Werkes angekündigt. "Asphalt Meadows (Acoustic)" – so der offizielle Titel – ist ab dem 10. März erhältlich und wird neue, klanglich reduziertere Versionen der elf Albumtracks enthalten, außerdem wird das Tracklisting um eine Coverversion von "The Plan" erweitert, ein Tribut an die verstorbene Mimi Parker, enge Freundin der Band und Schlagzeugerin der Kultband Low. Diesen Song kann man bereits jetzt unten hören, außerdem die Akustikversion von "Pepper". Anfang Januar 2023 hatten Death Cab for Cutie bereits ein Lyric Video zur Original-Studioversion von "Pepper" veröffentlicht, bei dem Juliet Bryant (Justin Vernon, Japanese Breakfast, Laura Jane Grace) Regie führte, ihrerseits ebenfalls eine angestammte Kreativpartnerin von Low.
Sänger und Gitarrist Ben Gibbard kommentiert die Cover-Version "The Plan": “I first saw Low in 1994 opening for Sunny Day Real Estate at the OK Hotel in Seattle. Since then, they’ve been one of the most influential and important bands of my life. It was the fulfillment of my teenage self’s indie rock dream when our bands became friends while on tour together in 2012. We were incredibly saddened by Mimi’s passing this past November. She was an incredible artist and an even better human being. We believe the best way to remember the musicians we lose is to play their songs. ‘The Plan’ has always been one of our favorite Low songs and is presented here in tribute to Mimi.”
