Jealous of the Birds – hinter diesem poetischen Namen verbirgt sich die nordirische Singer-Songwriterin Naomi Hamilton, deren Songs sich durch eine große textliche Tiefe und teils überraschend rockige Klänge auszeichnet. 2018 und 2019 veröffentlichte sie bereits je eine EP – "The Moths Of What I Want Will Eat Me In My Sleep" und "Wisdom Teeth", die auf viel positive Resonanz stießen so lobte NPR ihr "remarkable gift for converting spare and common ingredients (voice, acoustic guitar, a bit of whistling) into a sound that’s dense, gently hypnotic and utterly her own".

"For me ‘Young Neanderthal’ is about subverting the expectations others have of you and shedding any kind of implicit self-posturing you may have fallen into”, sagt Hamilton zu ihrem Song. "The young Neanderthal character became a metaphor for any naive ways of thinking and passively reacting to circumstance, and so I wanted the song to act as a defiant resignation letter to playing that role."

Produziert wurde "Young Neanderthal" von David Wrench (The XX, David Byrne, Marika Hackman). Der Song ist ein Vorbote des kommenden Debütalbums "Peninsula" von Jealous of the Birds, das am 18. September erscheint und neben David Wrench außerdem von Marta Salogni (Björk, Anna Meredith, Georgia Ruth) produziert wurde.

“You call me peninsula, an island no more.” Thrilled to share that on September 18th, my new record ‘Peninsula’ will be pushed out into the universe. Creating this record with @martasalogni and her team at @strongroom.studios in London was a joy. We worked with some of the most talented, intelligent musicians and engineers to help these songs flourish, ate heaps of delicious Asian food around Shoreditch, hung out with @dingolongboy, laughed at cat videos on the Internet and shook our hips while recording cowbell. Marta created a studio environment saturated with female energy and encouragement, heaps of laughter and openness, and a fierce determination to make something awesome. I essentially lived in London for two months while recording the album and got to explore parts of the city I’d never been to before. In March we were in a race against the threat of a global pandemic and national lockdown just before finishing our session in the nick of time. These songs went from months in my head, to demos made in my home studio, into Strongroom sessions and now soon to your ears, dear listener. In the meantime, the first single from the record ‘Young Neanderthal' is out tomorrow. Much love & gratitude, as always.
