In "Monster" rechnet Lynn Gunn mit äußerem Druck und inneren Erwartungen ab
"Monster" – der neue Song von PVRIS ist genauso gewaltig, wie er klingt. Über aggressive Electro-Gitarren-Beats singt und schreit Frontfrau Lynn Gunn, als gehe es um ihr Leben. Und im übertragenen Sinne stimmt das auch, denn in dem Song beschäftigt sie sich mit äußeren Erwartungen und dem daraus entstehenden Druck, den wir uns machen: "How could you let them turn you into a monster?", fragt sich Lynn, "Your bridge started to burn when you ran all across it / I guess you never learn 'til you live and you lost it / Live and you lost it".
Unten gibt es das offizielle Musikvideo zum ersten neuen Track seit dem Album "Use Me" im vergangenen Jahr, mit dem PVRIS den Beginn einer neuen Ära für sich markierten, in dem Lynn Gunn als Anführerin und alleinige Architektin von PVRIS in den Vordergrund tritt. "We shot ‘Monster’ in downtown Los Angeles in a pretty hot and sweaty warehouse”, kommentiert Gunn gegenüber dem NME. "The video is grimy, slimy and high energy, and being on set was the same matched energy. The video was directed by Katharine White (director of the ‘Death Of Me’ video) and featured a few of the same dancers from that video."
Zum Song selbst gibt Lynn zu Protokoll: "'Monster’ is a song about reckoning with outside opinions and expectations put upon oneself. It can be easy to take on the weight of negative situations/opinions, this is about the struggle of releasing those inhibitions and internalizations and returning back to yourself."
